Feedbacks of presentation

The feedbacks of our group presentation on the class from my classmates are here.

 Positive points

*You gave a good explanation
*It's good that we asked classmates about what they know about cloning
*Who do you think the parent is - is a great question
*very concise and easy to understand well organized

Constructive Criticisms

*It would have been better to put percentages or absolute values of the results in the pie charts
*The video could have been longer
*The movie was a bit short
*There will be better if the video has a background music

Questions
*Who was the man in pink suits?
Her name is Nobuko Iwaki, and she is a member of the Diet! She looks like a man.

ANSWER

If a clone is created, who is the parent?

I thnk clones have no parents because parent's child should be given birth directly by its true parents. If clone has his parents who are not related to them, parents wouldn't feel an attachment to the clones and so probably they increasingly desert their child. In the first place, there is no need to create the clones. What they create the clones for?

ANSWER

Should patients be tested for untreatable conditions?

Abusolutely should not do, I think. Because patients should not tested though there is no reliability of the test and if there is any failure on the test, who'll take responsibility that? Scientists must consider these problems more. It's great to improve the sience technologies and our life, but we should not test people on a new technology.

ANSWER

5. Should research institutes profit from our DNA?

No. Because ethical issues will arise as experiments were done on fetal animals and human embryos. As DNA cloning on human cells seem possible for medical benefits, questions remain as to whether it is ethical to apply scientific experiments on embryos.

ANSWER

4. Whether is cloning technology against the human ethics?

Human should be born naturally, and should not be born artificially because there would happen lots of problems. For example, who is the parents of the clones, and who raise the clones? What are the clones created for? Probably they'll be used for an organ transplant and possibly they'll be made slaves. I think human should live naturally as human.

Answer

3. What do you think human is cloned?
I answer my question above. I think human cloning is not so good because we can't have our identities. However, I think it's not so bad to improve clone technology or medical technology related to cloning, such as ES cells, IPS cells, and donars etc.. We will be haunted by the human ethics if human cloning really is realized. And if human cloning is realized, they will have no parents who bring up them. So, clones will be accomodated in the fcilities for clones to grow up.

I found two yahoo groops. There are many sorts of people, for example scholars, professinals and so on. But recently this two site don't discuss their topic so frequently. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/microbiologytalk/

Cloning NGO

I found the good site, The non-profit Human Cloning Foundation, and its abbreviation is The HCF.

http://www.humancloning.org/index.php

Mission and Goals- The HCF exists to promote human cloning and other forms of biotechnology. They believes that blood can be cloned, organs can be cloned, and that infertility can be cured with the use of this new technology. And they hope that cloning will help unlock the secrets of cancer and lead to its cure.

Strategies- The HCF's program include its web site with message boards and chat rooms. They publishes essays in support of human cloning and its technology, and provides resources for students writing such essays. And they run an internet mailing list for researchers, sientists, and physicians who wish to discuss human cloning. Furthermore, the HCF plans to sponsor a yearly international conference on human cloning technology. A variety of educational programs about human cloning and other forms of biotechnology are constantly in progress.

Answer

"What will we be able to do by cloning technology in future, and does it really possible to carry it out?"
I refer to this question. If cloning technology is used fleely for cloning humans, the super humans; Einstein, Usain Bolt, Newton, etc.. would comeback to life from dead. But it may be probably not able to  revive concerning Einstein and Newton because there is no cells of them. And we can treat heart attacks by cloning healthy heart cells and injecting them into the damaged heart area. It's possible to carry it out in future and I wish the technology will be improved before long.

Answer

I write the answer for my question 1 " What advantages does the cloning might have?". First, stem cells will eventually change the face of medicine as we know it. Given the fact that the cells can be manipulated to mimic other types of cells, this can provide new ways to treat diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. And secondly, cloning can reverse the effect of aging. However, I think people of advanced age would increase and progress an aging society. Thirdly, there are so many dangered species in the world, but cloning may be able to protect them in future.

This word cloud  is my second work, and there are big words: "cells", "brain", "scientists", Dolly", "patients". Therefore, we can imagine that this original site is maybe written about medical or cloning. Dolly is a sheep which is famous for being cloned.

I'd like to show you this word clouds I made by using "wordle". This is from a site, "Sience Daily", which is written about souces for the latest research news.   This article says cloning is not by chance but is done by human intentionally. And "cloning", "identical", "organism", are written in big words, so I can guess this site is about "cloning" .

I found a good site to research on my controversial issues. Because the site has many perspectives, so it is convienient for me to do reserch. Its URL is http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/elsi/cloning.shtml

QUESTIONS

These are the questions which I think are very controversial.

1. What advantage does the cloning might have?
2. What will we be able to do by cloning technology in future, and does it really possible to carry it out?
3. What do you think human is cloned?
4. Whether is cloning technology against the human ethics?
5. Should research institutes profit from our DNA?
6. Should patients be tested for untreatable conditions?
7. How private is a person's genetic information?
8. Is there the right to have children, regardless of how they are created?
9. If a clone is created, who is the parent?
10. Is it ethically right to harvest organs from clones?

15 Questions to think about.

These are the questions that possebly be useful to discuss about this complicated matter.

1 What is the possible risk this technology might bring?

2 Is it possible to create hybrid animal?

3 Could this technology be an another solution for who cannot have children because of the same gender or simply cannot have one.

4 Would it be a one approach for longlivity beyond human capacity?

5 Is it possible or good to have the extinct animals?

6 What will the religion change from it?

7 Can we become better humanity by this technology?

8 What would you treat the "made up life"?

9 Can we expect more profit compared the disadvantage it would bring?

10 Would it really be useful to feed the starving?

11 Can we "create" genius?

13 What should the growing population do?

14 Would we meet extinction?

15 what is the meaning of life?

It has turned quite philosophycal, but it maybe worth to give a bit of time for it.

Cloning responce (role play as medical )

Although the Cloning technology's is a field we need to do more research, we have high hope to this approach. To study closely how the life and understanding how its cycle works will give us the opportunity to do the impossible... such as healing patients who cannot be cured by the current medical surgery.
Many disease or serious injuries are incurable even if we use the newest, best medical techniques and equipment. Some are just simply best to leave our own body to do its job. The cloning uses stem cell, which is collectible from the embryo. This stem cell, is the very base that would create our body structure based on DNA. Without DNA, it is just a base material that would create body parts according to the DNA that surrounds it, in another words, it will become/ repair the parts that is damaged or even lost.
Our best interest is in these purpose, to cure the incurable. With this technology, we have facts that the rat with Alzheimer's has shown a sign of recovery, by the stem cell replacing the damaged brain parts. I believe this is a technology well worth of challenging. The key to the day we might live long as we wish, might be in this study.

INHUMANE

We all have the identity, so if lots of cloning people who have the same gene of anyone were produced on this world,  there would appear the problem, "What is the human?" or "Who are we?". Hence, the cloning causes a lot of fuss in the world. Furthermore, it's inhumane that we use the cloned heart to cure the people who are damaged by heart attacks, because such cure is against the human ethics.

BENEFITS OF HUMAN CLONING

I found the article which says that cloning technology may someday be possible to reverse the aging prosess, and may be able to treat heart attack victims by cloning their healthy heart cells and injecting them into the areas of the heart that have been damaged. I think cloning technology may be able to save human's life and it makes us possible to live more and more long.

Cloning responce (as Green Peace perspective, role play)

Hello to everyone. We would like to present our opinion about cloning, in a most close subject that everyone could easily recognize. The food we eat, genetically tempered ones.
We believe that everyone would agree that we want to be safe on what we eat on everyday bases. The thing we eat would be a very energy to live, therefore it should be healthy so we could go maintain a good life. However, as the industries increase the efficiency to produce, so did the same with the problems that is brought to our front door. We already have a lot of problems that are not solved,  some are even concealed from our eyes so they can keep producing in high standards.
The crops and other veggies would be  a easy example. Not long ago, we were scared by the insecticide such as DDT, the dreadful consequence it brought was very expensive. We somewhat managed to decrease the rate of these to be used, there are producers still using it, and people are suffering from it, and the price we need to pay to restore the environment is expensive.
Our stances are not to take chances when there is still a risk, especially when it has a possibility to make a irreversible damage to the environment. Not only that, there are facts that genetically modified foods has caused allergy to people. We have created foods for a long time, but in natural way and we know what we took in our hand.
The things we talked above is just an example, however we are about to make use of Genetic modification, a technology we have not explored enough. We already made many mistakes because we pretended not to look at the problem, or we simply did not know.

Are you really willing to take this risk? Are you going to make the mistake from the same reason we had? We, are against the cloning.
